Jimi Hendrix - Red House

This is a clip from the classic Woodstock festival of 1969. The clip is of Hendrix's band of Gypsies performing the Hendrix tune "Red House". It's one of the bluesiest tunes of Hendrix's who very often were more rock 'n' roll. It's like a psychedelic blues, mixing the blues with a hint of psychedelia.
The song has become a blues standard, and is respected and covered by many artists. Artists like Gary Moore, Prince and Johnny Winter. But it's also been covered by some of the great blues legends, and Hendrix's own idols like; Buddy Guy, Albert King and John Lee Hooker.
Truly a great tune adapted by the blues legends. Hendrix was a legend, a true master of his instrument, an innovator and just plain out of this world.

Hideaway & Rude Mood - Stevie Ray Vaughan

This is a performance from the concert Stevie played at Montreux in Switzerland in 1982. He performs a medley consisting of Hideaway and Rude Mood. He starts off with Freddie King's classic Hideaway, then gets into Rude Mood, a take off on the famous Lightnin' Hopkins song "Hopkin's Skyhop", and towards the end gets back into Hideaway.
It's a famous concert, because Stevie was booed heavily on stage, not so much during this performance which was early in  his set, but later. It's also famous because David Bowie spotted Stevie at the gig, and hired him for his classic song "Let's Dance".
Stevie was booed, but later reutrned in 1985 and rocked the house, guess they just couldn't handle Stevie at that point. It was a shame that he was booed off, and that audience clearly had no taste what so ever!!

Wee Wee Hours - Chuck Berry with Eric Clapton

This is a performance from the documentary "Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll". It's a documentary about Chuck Berry, and the influence his playing has had on more contemporary players. The film was made in celebration of Chuck's 60th birthday, and he looks better than ever in the film, energetic and young. He performs on stage with a long list of artists including; Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Etta James, Johnnie Johnson, Bobby Keys and Keith Richards to name a few.
This is a great performance, love it when Clapton goes off and does two solos in a row, as Chuck says "...Eric Clapton; man of the blues", and that's true.

B.B. King - How Blue Can You Get

This is a performance from "The Late Show". It features B.B. King performing his classic song "How Blue Can You Get" with Paul Shaffer and the CBS orchestra. It's a great version of the song, and the CBS orchestra is great, it's such a joy to hear King performing with a horn section.
There is a mini interview after the performance, it's pretty entertaining, but the performance is the best part for sure. Prettye fun to see David trying to get King to sing with him.

AC/DC - The Jack

Now it's time for the rock-side of things. This a performance by Australian hard rock band "AC/DC". It's the song "The Jack" from their 1975 Australian release  T.N.T. The song was originally recorded with Bon Scott on vocals, but since this performance is from 2003 Brian Johnson who does a banging job on it.
The song is essentially a typical blues structure, with a change between the three chords B, A and E played in a classic blues shuffle. It's a great performance, and shows the blues influence, not only in the rhythm playing, but also in Angus's lead playing.
Also love how both Angus and Brian really work the stage, and give a performance out of the ordinary. I mean Brian runs across stage, and reaches as much of the audience as possible, and Angus is just on, and performs brilliantly for the audience.
Truly a great performance by an awesome band.

John Mayer & Eric Clapton - Crossroads

Here's a performance by Eric Clapton and John Mayer. They play the classic Johnson tune "Crossroads". The song was originally made under the title "Cross Road Blues" as a one-person acoustic blues tune by the ahead of his time talented Robert Johnson. The band Cream, of which Clapton was a member, covered the song on their "Wheels of Fire" album in an electrified version coming off the 60's blues vibe in London.
It is a blues classic, and Clapton's version has been covered by numerous artists, including Rush, Elmore James, John Mayer to name a few.

Jeff Beck & B.B. King - Key to The Highway

This is a performance by B.B. King and Jeff Beck, it's from 2003. They perform the song "Key to The Highway", a song that's been part of King's repertoire for a long time. It is considered a blues classic, originally recorded in 1940 by Charlie Segar, and since covered by a number of blues artists. It was originally a 12-bar blues, but when covered by Big Bill Broonzy, he changed it to an 8-bar blues that sounds similar to the one performed today.
I love this performance, and the playful attitude the players have. There's nothing but respect between them. King's got the feelin', but Beck's got some speed, and in the end they're both great, it's never a competition.

The Doors & John Lee Hooker - Roadhouse Blues

The video is a fan made video. The song is from the 2000 album "Stoned Immaculate: The Music of The Doors". It is an album recorded by the surviving members of The Doors, and features many guest performances. Like this one featuring blues legend John Lee Hooker. The track was put together in the studio using a posthumous vocal by Morrison. It is a great song, and it showcases that "The Doors" also had the blues, and getting a guy like Hooker is a stamp of approval in my book.

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Lookin' Out The Window

This is a performance by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. It's a performance from Italy 1988 of "Lookin' Out The Window" and it's a typical blues tune. I really like the tempo and feel of this song, kinda reminds me of electric versions of "Key To The Highway", same chord structure, but still different.
I really love the piano solo from Reese Wynans who joined the band in 85 for their third studio album "Soul to Soul". He was a wonderful addition, not just studio-wise, but also in the band's live performances.

Freddie King - Goin' Down

This is a clip of blues legend Freddie King performing Goin' Down live. Freddie is one of the '3 Kings of blues'. The three kings of blues are Albert, B.B. and Freddie King, all named 'King' as their last name. Freddie being inspired by both the raw Texas blues and the West side Chicago blues fused them into his recognizable tone and sound. Freddie has influenced a lot of players; Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Vaughan, Eric Clapton and Peter Green are all inspired by Freddie.
The song 'Goin' Down' has been covered on  occasion by artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan , Keith Richards and the G3 guys, but it isn't Freddie's most covered song.

Etta James - Hoochie Coochie Gal

This video is from the Chuck Berry documentary 'Hail Hail Rock 'n' Roll'. It features a performance of the classic Willie Dixon blues tune 'Hoochie Coochie Man'. It was made famous and performed by Muddy Waters, and have been covered by numerous artists including; Eric Clapton, Steppenwolf and Buddy Guy. I love this version, because Etta really brings something to the table, she sings amazingly on it. She is truly versatile, can do both ballads, blues and rock 'n' roll.
The song also features a smokin' piano solo by Johnnie Johnson who was a regular with Chuck on the road. On guitar is Keith Richards and Robert Cray, and we get some sweet reaction shots from Chuck who is simply stunned by the performance.

Dust My Broom - Gary Moore

This is a clip of Gary Moore covering the famous song 'Dust My Broom'. It's song that's been covered a lot, artists who have done cover-versions include; Howlin' Wolf, ZZ Top, Ike & Tina Turner, Keith Richards, and many more.
The song was originally recorded by blues legend Robert Johnson, but made famous by legendary slide player Elmore James.
Moore isn't much of a slide player, but I really think he brings something to this cover, and does a very good job with it.

Champagne And Reefer - Rolling Stones and Buddy Guy

This is a great performance. It is from the Martin Scorsese concert film 'Shine a Light'. And I think one of the highlights, if not the highlight, of that film. Just love it, it's stone cold blues, and Buddy's playing is just fantastic, Keith and Ronnie trying to keep up, and Jagger playing a surprisingly well blues harp just adds up to a fantastic sound.
Oh and almost forgot, Buddy's vocal is just powerful and fantastic.

If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day - Eric Clapton live

This clip is taken from Clapton's 2004 performance at the Crossroads guitar festival. It's a great version of this Robert Johnson classic, and showcases what Clapton does best, and have been doing since the early 60's: Electrifying the classic blues tunes and spreading the blues to a wider audience. Clapton also once said that it takes more than one person to duplicate what Johnson was doing in the 20's and 30's, and with this full orchestra he definetely does justice to the original.

Great Collaboration Albert King & Gary Moore

This is a great clip featuring Albert King and Gary Moore performing together. They play the song 'Stormy Monday' originally performed by and written by T-Bone Walker. It's a great performance, love how Albert's stone cold blues mixes fluently with Gary's more rock influenced sound. Great performance of a great song.

Rare SRV Footage - Love Struck Baby

This clip is a piece of rare footage. It's Stevie Ray Vaughan performing his hit 'Love Struck Baby'. Joining him on stage is a young Colin James. Colin James was discovered thanks to Stevie, and Stevie has talked highly of him and his abilities in interviews.
