Neil Young – Down By The River

This is a live performance by Neil Young doing the song “Down By The River”. The performance is from the Farm Aid show which is a charity show.
The song is available on the album “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” which Neil Young did with the band Crazy Horse. This album was originally released in 1969.
I really love the song and the simple folk feeling it has. I love how Neil Young plays this solo with just him and his battered up old Les Paul. It sounds so good and genuine.

Enjoy ; )

The Rolling Stones - Honky Tonk Women

This is a live performance by the famous British rock 'n' roll band The Rolling Stones playing their song "Honky Tonk Women" live. The performance is from Japan and it was part of their Voodoo Lounge tour, this performance is from 2005.
The song was originally released in 1969 and it was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. It was hugely successful in both America and the UK. The song was originally conceived as an acoustic country song and it was recorded it two versions. The second version was re-named "Country Honk" and was on the band's "Let It Bleed" album.
The song has also been done by a lot of famous artists since its release by The Rolling Stones, these artists include: Ike and Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Gram Parsons, Elton John, Taj Mahal, and Albert King.
I really love this performance though. Especially love the guitar work by Richards on this one, it's so his style and he plays it magnificently. Also love the piano work by Chuck Leavell, but again Richards can't help but cut in and play the piano a bit. This performance is all about Keith Richards, in my opinion, and he rocks it!

Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit

This is a live performance by psychedelia/acid rock band Jefferson Airplane playing their perhaps most known song "White Rabbit" live at the infamous Woodstock Festival in 1969.
The song was originally released in 1967 on the album "Surrealistic Pillow". The song was released as a single and it reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was written by Grace Slick who brought the song to the group when she joined the group in 1966. The song's lyrics are allusive towards the classic tale "Alice in Wonderland", but these allusions are believed to have a second meaning that is the effects of hallucinogenic drugs such as LSD. The song is set to a rising crescendo which gives the song a bit of a Spanish feel. It's a great song, and it was one of the first songs to sneak drug references past censors and it's simply a classic.

The Rolling Stones - Midnight Rambler

This is a live performance by the infamous British rock 'n' roll and blues band The Rolling Stones playing their song "Midnight Rambler" live. The performance is from a concert in India from 2003 and it was raining heavily which can also be seen in the concert footage.
The song is from the band's 1969 album "Let It Bleed". The lyrics take the viewpoint of a rapist/murderer, and Keith Richards has referred to the song as "a blues opera". The song was written by Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. On the original studio recording Richards played all of the guitar parts, mainly using standard tuning, but also open E tuning for some parts. Mick played the harmonica on it, Bill Wyman played bass, Charlie Watts played drums, and Brian Jones was credited as percussionist.
I think it's a really good performance, I love the tempo shifts in it, Jagger's harmonica playing and just the whole feel of it. Really seems very loose and a lot like a jam. A great performance of a really great song.

It's a sweet little feel good blues tune. I really love in this performance the slide work done by guitarist Marc Mann. It's a really good performance!

Led Zeppelin - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You

This is a live performance by British rock band Led Zeppelin performing their version of the song "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You". The performance is from a recording for "Danmarks Radio" in Denmark. The performance is from 1969 and it was in front of a very little crowd before the group reached stadium rock status, what a lucky bunch of young people seeing a band like this up close like this.
The song is a folk song written by Anne Berdon in the late 1950s. The most famous versions of the songs were done by Joan Baez on her 1962 album "Joan Baez, In Concert, Part 1". And of course Led Zeppelin who's version appeared on the band's 1969 self titled debut album.
It's a really good folk rock song that tells a story and feels traditional while still rocking. It's a great composition by Jimmy Page, a great song and a great performance.

Jimi Hendrix - Valleys of Neptune

The song is off the album "Valleys of Neptune" which was the 11th album by Hendrix released posthumously. Most of the album was self-produced by Hendrix and recorded in sessions during the year 1969. The album was released in America in 2010.
It's a great song, and the album is highly recommended for any Hendrix fan. It really is a good album, and not just a cash grab.

Santana - Soul Sacrifice

This is a live performance by latin rock band Santana playing their classic instrumental song "Soul Sacrifice". The performance is from the infamous Woodstock Festival in 1969. At the time of this performance Santana wasn't really a known act and in fact their debut album hadn't even come out.
The Woodstock performance is remembered for the drummer Michael Shrieve's elaborate solo. And for the sound the band had which was very unique. A distinct fast paced latin rock sound that was really unique.
Carlos Santana has admitted to being on LSD during his performance. He has stated that it was an uncomfortable experience and that he saw his guitar as a snake that he had to hold on to tight. He states that he doesn't recommend it to anyone, but that it somehow worked out and made the performance electric. He also thanks the band's promoter Bill Graham whom he credits for the band's success and preparing them for the crowd. (Interview embeded below)

The song appeared on the band's 1969 debut album also titled "Santana".
It's a great song and an amazing performance.

Jimi Hendrix - Villanova Junction

This is a live performance by rock god Jimi Hendrix performing the instrumental song "Villanova Junction". The performance is from the Rainbow Bridge in Maui, Hawaii, from 1970.
The song first appeared at Woodstock where it was part of the recorded set that consisted of jam based recordings.
Hendrix is playing a Gibson Flying V in this performance and I really love the cleaner tone he gets from this. Probably the humbucker pick-ups.
You can definitely hear the influence Hendrix has later had on newer artists on songs like this. It is very clear that for instance Stevie Ray Vaughan has been influenced by songs like this on his own songs like "Lenny" and "Riviera Paradise". Just the groove, tempo, expressive nature, and also slightly on the modes Hendrix uses. I must stress that this is merely what I hear when listening to this, I have no sources that confirms my assumptions other than my own personal analysis.
It's a great performance and a great song. And the sound is just excellent on this which is really nice too.

Enjoy ; )

Jimi Hendrix - Lover Man

This is a live performance by Jimi Hendrix playing his classic song "Lover Man". The performance is from The Royal Albert Hall in 1969.
The song "Lover Man", also known under the titles: "Here He Comes" and "Here He Comes Your Lover Man", is unique in that a studio version wasn't released until 2010. It has been performed live on numerous occasions and performed as early as 1968. The structure of the song is the same they'd use when covering B.B. King's tune "Rock Me Baby".
It's a great song and Hendrix really adds that unique touch and sound to this tune. My favourite version is a rare take that I haven't really identified. It's from youtube and all I know is that it's rare. Embeded below:

There's no video, just pictures. The audio quality is really good though and to me it sounds like a deposited studio take. It's a slower version of the song which I really dig. The slow tempo really adds to the psychedelia factor. Also the extended wah wah solo at the end of the song.
I love this take and any version of this song. It's so good and one of Hendrix's best in my opinion.

The song “Back Door Man” is a traditional blues song written by Willie Dixon who wrote the song for Howlin’ Wolf. Wolf’s version was released on his 1961 self-titled album. And the song is considered a classic of the Chicago blues.
The Doors version of the song first appeared on their 1967 self-titled album. And the song became a standard cover song for the band.
It’s a good performance of a classic song. But also brings that 60’s psychedilia into the song.

Johnny Winter – Highway 61 Revisited

This is a live performance by American blues guitarist Johnny Winter doing his rendition of the classic Bob Dylan song “Highway 61 Revisited”.
This was the title track of Dylan’s 1965 album. The lyrics of the song all revolve around various problems that eventually end up being solved on Highway 61.
Johnny Winter did his cover of the song in 1969 and it became a career defining track for Winter. It was on his album “Second Winter”. The song became a live standard for Winter.
The song has also been recorded by P.J. Harvey and Billy Joel.
I love Johnny’s version and the slide guitar he’s playing that just seems to fit in perfectly with the original feel of the song. A great song and a great performance.

Jimi Hendrix – I Don’t Live Today

This is a live performance by guitar legend Jimi Hendrix and his band The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The performance is from The Royal Albert Hall in 1969. After the performance there’s a short interview at the end of the video.
The song “I Don’t Live Today” is from the band’s debut album “Are You Experienced” released in 1967. The album was very successful and helped launch Hendrix’s career. It reached #2 on the UK charts behind The Beatles with their album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”.
I really love this performance. Hendrix’s playing and singing on this is sublime and Mitch Mitchell’s drumming on this song is just sublime.
A great performance of a great song.

Jimi Hendrix - Crosstown Traffic

This is the music video to the classic Jimi Hendrix song "Crosstown Traffic". The song was originally released in 1968 on the album "Electric Ladyland". It was released as a single in 1968 in America and in 1969 as a single in the UK, it was the second single of the album. It peaked at no. 52 on the Billboard Hot 100 and no. 37 on the UK pop singles chart.
The song is one of the tracks from the album that features the full line-up of The Jimi Hendrix Experience. It also features Hendrix on a self made kazoo like instrument made from a comb and a piece of tissue paper doubling that with his lead playing at various points in the song.
It's a great song and one of my favourite Hendrix songs. The lyrics are good, but simple, it's well produced, short and got mainstream success. A great song by a great artist and band

Isaac Hayes - Walk On By

This is a live performance by soul musician Isaac Hayes doing his version of "Walk On By" at the 2005 Montreux Jazz Festival.
"Walk On By" was originally composed by Burt Bacharac with lyrics by Hal David. The song was first recorded by Dionne Warwick. It has since been covered by many artists who have made the song a hit. Of course Isaac Hayes, but also The Stranglers, D-Train, Cyndi Lauper and Seal among others.
Isaac Haye's version was released on his 1969 "Hot Buttered Soul" album. On this version the song is transformed into an almost 13 minutes funk jam. This live version is about 9 mintues and 30 seconds. The single version from the album was cut down to about 5 minutes and it got to no. 30 on the US Hot 100 chart.
I really love this live version it's really a jam and the band is feeling it. Especially love the guitar intro by Charles "Skip" Pitts. Hayes also refers to him as Skip under the concert. The funky bass line at the end that just escalated at the end is also very impressive. A very good and funky performance.

Rolling Stones ft. Christina Aguilera

This is a performance by British rock 'n' roll band The Rolling Stones featuring Christina Aguilera. They play the classic Rolling Stones song "Live with Me" from their 1969 record "Let It Bleed". It isn't the most famous song be The Stones, but it is considered an important song amongst fans. It was one of the first recordings where guitarist Mick Taylor contributed. It is the first song where Keith Richards is credited for playing bass (he only played bass on the original recording, and sticks to playing guitar in the performance clip above). This original recording was also the first song to feature sax player Bobby Keys.
The performance in the clip above is from Martin Scorcesse's concert film "Shine a Light" from 2008. It's a really good film, and it hosts some really good and solid performances from the band, and is excellently shot.

Neil Young - Cinnamon Girl
Uploaded by PigLips. - Explore more music videos.
This is a performance from rock icon Neil Young playing his classic song "Cinnamon Girl". The song was released in 1969 on Young's album "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" which was also his first album with the backing band "Crazy Horse".
The song is known for it's sung harmony of Young's low-pitch voice, and on the original recording a second higher pitched voice sung by Danny Whitten. It is also famous for the catchy guitar riff that drives the song throughout. It is written in Double Drop D tuning on the guitars, and gives it the lower sound of the top and bottom strings on the guitar.
It's a great live performance, and Young performs 100 % and still does to this day, what a great performer and musician.
