Tim Christensen - Superior

Tim Christensen - Superior (2009) from Tim Christensen on Vimeo.

This is the music video to the song Superior by Danish artist Tim Christensen. From 1988 to 1998 he was the frontman for the successful group Dizzy Mizz Lizzy. They reunited in 2010, but only for a string of reunion concerts.
"Superior" is from Tim Christensen's 2008 album also titled "Superior". It was the first single from the album released in 2008 as a single.
It's a great little pop number with a bit of rock influence on it as well. A great song.

Enjoy ; )

Anvil - Metal on Metal

Click Here To Watch The Video
This is a live performance by the Canadian heavy metal band Anvil performing their song "Metal on Metal". The performance is from either Late Night with Conan O'Brien or The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, I'm not entirely sure, but I think it was on Conan's old show.
The band Anvil is a heavy metal band from Canada that was predicted a great future in the genre in the 80's, but things didn't turn out like that. A lot of highly successful artists quote them as an influence, but they never really made it big. A documentary was made about the band in, titled "Anvil! The Story of Anvil", and it was released in 2008. It's one of the best documentaries I've seen ever, period! It makes you really feel and understand the feelings the people in it have. It's a great documentary and I highly recommend it.
The song was first released on the band's second studio album, also titled "Metal on Metal", in 1982. (Album artwork embeded below, I love that art work, so cheesy, yet very fun).
It's a descent performance from the band and you can tell that they are just having the time of their life which they really truly deserve. Especially the band's frontman Steven "Lips" Kudlow, what showmanship!

Snoop Dogg ft. Wille Nelson - My Medicine

This is the music video to the song "My Medicine" by hip hop artist Snoop Dogg. On this song he explores a bit of country and western influence and also something that is more rockabilly sounding. I really respect him for doing something like this and experimenting like this. He doesn't take himself too seriously and that's why he's so cool.
The song is off Snoop's 2008 album "Ego Trippin'". The album was his 9th studio album.
The video says "ft. Willie Nelson", but he isn't really in the song that much. A little bit towards the end and he also sings a little bit there, but it's very little. And on the album version he isn't credited, so seems a little weird to me.
It's a great song though. And it's great to see that Snoop diggs outlaw country too. Always good to have a broad musical horizon.

Enjoy ; )

Beck - "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat"

This is a piece of bootleg footage from a Beck concert. Beck and his band is covering Bob Dylan's song "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat". The performance is from 2008 and the video and audio is pretty good considering the fact that it's a bootleg recording.
The song was originally released on Dylan's 1966 album "Blonde on Blonde. The song features a surreal set of playful lyrics set to a typical electric blues chord progression.
The song is about a woman who wears a leopard skin pill box hat, funny enough. It's an ironic tone and the song sort of mocks the woman. A pill box hat was a popular hat worn by women in the 60's. (Picture below)
The influences on the song was a Lightnin' Hopkins song titled "Automobile Blues". It's a different and new set of lyrics by Dylan, but the rhythm and flow of it sounds similar to the Lightnin' Hopkins song.
It's a great little blues number. I also recommend checking out John Mellencamp's version of this song from Dylan's 30th Anniversary celebration concert. It's a great song and Beck does a great job with it as well.

Enjoy ; )

The Rolling Stones - Jumpin' Jack Flash

This is a live performance by legendary British rock 'n' roll band The Rolling Stones playing their classic song "Jumpin' Jack Flash" live. The performance is from the concert-film "Shine a Light" from 2008 directed by Martin Scorsese.
The song was released in 1968 and it was considered The Rolling Stones' venture back into the rock 'n' roll bluesy sound that they were originally known for. The song was written by Keith Richards and Mick Jagger.
The song has also been recorded by soul diva Aretha Franklin. She did a recording of the song for the Whoopi Goldberg film of the same name. Richards and Ronnie Wood also played the guitar parts on her version.
Other notable covers of the song includes: Leon Russell, Tina Turner, Peter Frampton, Johnny Winter, Motörhead and Guns N' Roses.
It's a great song and the version from "Shine a Light" is an awesome performance of the song as well, with some really good camera angles courtesy of Scorsese. A great performance.

Enjoy ; )

The Rolling Stones Feat. Christina Aguilera – Live with Me

This is a live performance by British blues and rock ‘n’ roll band The Rolling Stones performing their classic hit “Live with Me”. Joining them on stage is singer Christina Aguilera. The performance is from the concert film “Shine a Light” released in 2008.
The song “Live with Me” first appeared on the album “Let It Bleed” released in 1969. It is one of the first songs where Keith Richards is credited for playing bass. (On the album version) On the album version of this song Bobby Keys played saxophone with The Stones for the first time and Leon Russel contributed some piano parts to the song.
It’s a great song and it really works as a duet in the live version where Aguilera really sings it well. A great performance of a good rock ‘n’ roll song.

Enjoy ;-)

Gary Moore - Still Got the Blues (In Loving Memory of Gary Moore)

This is a live performance by blues and rock guitarist Gary Moore playing what is probably known as his signature song, or at least his most well known song of his solo career.
As I just recently found out, Gary Moore has passed. He died in a hotel room during a vacation at the age of 58. The specific date has been dated to the early hours of 6 February. The reason I'm just posting about it now is that I just recently found out. It hasn't gotten a lot of media attention which is a little sad, because he was a great guitarist in both rock and blues and hugely successful (at least in Europe). I haven't seen a lot of media coverage in neither the American media or the European media which is why I'm a little delayed with this.
I think it is tragic in that he died at age 58 in what seems to be a sudden death. And we know that he was still making music. His latest record was released in 2008 and he seemed to still be energetic and have plenty of music left in him. And that's the sad part, all of that beautiful, soulful and rocking music we'll be missing out on.
I also always felt that Gary never got the full recognition he deserved. I mean he was somewhat well known as a blues and rock guitarist and as an influence on a lot of people spanning a broad spectrum of genres, but he never really got enough recognition. He was never really placed in the same league as Clapton, SRV and Hendrix. And in my book he ranks right up there with them. I know you should never rank guitarist, and I'm not comparing them, but Gary deserved a broader audience and he deserved to be one of those guys who everyone knows, and I don't think he is. And that's sad.
What we can do now is simply try and remember all of the beautiful music Gary has brought us. He brought us everything from hard rock to slow blues and he did it in his own style. And that's quite an accomplishment in my book. I mean he can play rock guitar and still also play blues in his own style with the same amount of feeling as the greats.

Below are a list of links to previous posts I posted featuring Gary Moore. Remember: The best memory is one's music, so click them and remember Gary for all the good music he brought.

Gary Moore you will be missed.

Rolling Stones ft. Christina Aguilera

This is a performance by British rock 'n' roll band The Rolling Stones featuring Christina Aguilera. They play the classic Rolling Stones song "Live with Me" from their 1969 record "Let It Bleed". It isn't the most famous song be The Stones, but it is considered an important song amongst fans. It was one of the first recordings where guitarist Mick Taylor contributed. It is the first song where Keith Richards is credited for playing bass (he only played bass on the original recording, and sticks to playing guitar in the performance clip above). This original recording was also the first song to feature sax player Bobby Keys.
The performance in the clip above is from Martin Scorcesse's concert film "Shine a Light" from 2008. It's a really good film, and it hosts some really good and solid performances from the band, and is excellently shot.
