Stevie Ray Vaughan with Johnny Copeland – Look At Little Sister
This is a live performance by blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan playing the song “Look At Little Sister” live. The performance is from the 1985 performance that Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble gave at the Montreux Jazz Festival that year. Joining them live on stage is another blues guitarist, Johnny Copeland. He also joined in for the songs “Cold Shot” and “Tin Pan Alley” which came prior to this.
The whole concert including Vaughan’s 1982 performance at Montreux is available on DVD and I highly recommend picking it up. Truly a must have if you’re a fan of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
The lyrics to the song are credited to song writer H. Ballard, so I’m guessing it’s some sort of traditional song or something.
It’s a great performance. The solos done by both guitarists are really good and it’s such an up tempo song that just puts you in a good mood. It’s a great traditional blues song played to perfection.
Enjoy ; )

Anvil - Metal on Metal
This is a live performance by the Canadian heavy metal band Anvil performing their song "Metal on Metal". The performance is from either Late Night with Conan O'Brien or The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, I'm not entirely sure, but I think it was on Conan's old show.
The band Anvil is a heavy metal band from Canada that was predicted a great future in the genre in the 80's, but things didn't turn out like that. A lot of highly successful artists quote them as an influence, but they never really made it big. A documentary was made about the band in, titled "Anvil! The Story of Anvil", and it was released in 2008. It's one of the best documentaries I've seen ever, period! It makes you really feel and understand the feelings the people in it have. It's a great documentary and I highly recommend it.
The song was first released on the band's second studio album, also titled "Metal on Metal", in 1982. (Album artwork embeded below, I love that art work, so cheesy, yet very fun).
It's a descent performance from the band and you can tell that they are just having the time of their life which they really truly deserve. Especially the band's frontman Steven "Lips" Kudlow, what showmanship!
Enjoy ; )

George Thorogood and the Destroyers – Bad to the Bone
This is a live performance by George Thorogood and his band the Destroyers performing his infamous song “Bad to the Bone”.
The song originally appeared on Thorogood’s album of the same name released in 1982. Upon the songs original release it wasn’t a big hit, but it later became a big hit due to it being featured in various films, TV-shows and commercials.
The songs structure borrows from that of traditional blues and early rock ‘n’ roll. Songs like “I’m a Man” by Bo Diddley that is very similar. (Bo Diddley famously appeared in the music video for the song, he’s playing a game of pool in the video) Also Muddy Waters’ songs “Mannish Boy” and “She Moves Me” have similar chord structured. The riff is also very similar to that off Chuck Berry’s song “No Money Down”.
This is a great way of taking old blues references and taking them into new territory with a great song like this.
Enjoy ;-)

Queen+Paul Rodgers - Feel Like Makin' Love
The song "Feel Like Makin' Love" is a song originally by the British supergroup Bad Company. The song originally appeared on the band's LP "Straight Shooter", it was released in 1975 and released as a single the same year. The song was ranked as the 78th best hard rock song by VH1 and its viewers.
It has been covered by a large number of different artists and has been referenced in popular culture on many occasions. One of the most well known covers is Kid Rock's version from 2003. It was highly successful, but doesn't come close to the original, not even close.
The group was a supergroup and consisted of members from various bands. They were managed by Peter Grant who also managed Led Zeppelin. Rodgers was with the group from 73-82, and has since joined various other groups, and done a lot of work with rock legends like Jimmy Page and the remaining members of Queen Brian May and Roger Taylor. Rodgers has been quoted as saying that he feels the best version of this song is with the members from Queen. I agree, it's a great performance, and it's really energetic, gotta love that!
Enjoy it ; )

David Bowie - Let's Dance
This is a music video for the title track of Bowie's album "Let's Dance" released in 1983, and digitally re-mastered in 1999.
This is a great album by Bowie, it experiments with many different genres of music, it has a lot of funk influences, but also draws on more traditional rock and blues, and of course also the pop sound of the times.
The album is also famous for helping blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan getting discovered. Bowie had heard Stevie's 1982 Montreux performance, and was impressed. They met up backstage and chatted, and it turned out they were in to some of the same weird things musically. Bowie admired Stevies sound, and hired him to play lead guitar on his next album which was "Let's Dance".
Stevie only plays lead guitar, the rhythm guitar on the album is Nile Rodgers. And Stevie's lead playing is very toned down, and not a huge part of the album, but still helps increase the sound and the experience.
The album cut of the song Let's Dance is 7:37, much shorter than what is used in the music video which I assume is also the radio edit of the song. They still left in all of Stevie's parts however which shows how much his lead playing helped the album.
Stevie was also offered a spot in David's live band that was going to tour for the album, but he turned it down, and went onto recording his first solo record with Double Trouble "Texas Flood", and got the massive career in the 80's.
It's a great song, and a pretty good looking music video for the times. Stevie isn't in the video, and Bowie pretends to play a Stratocaster looking guitar while wearing white gloves, perhaps a nod to Stevie and the fact that no one could play like him, who knows? Or maybe just David being odd.
Enjoy ; )

Hideaway & Rude Mood - Stevie Ray Vaughan
This is a performance from the concert Stevie played at Montreux in Switzerland in 1982. He performs a medley consisting of Hideaway and Rude Mood. He starts off with Freddie King's classic Hideaway, then gets into Rude Mood, a take off on the famous Lightnin' Hopkins song "Hopkin's Skyhop", and towards the end gets back into Hideaway.
It's a famous concert, because Stevie was booed heavily on stage, not so much during this performance which was early in his set, but later. It's also famous because David Bowie spotted Stevie at the gig, and hired him for his classic song "Let's Dance".
Stevie was booed, but later reutrned in 1985 and rocked the house, guess they just couldn't handle Stevie at that point. It was a shame that he was booed off, and that audience clearly had no taste what so ever!!
Enjoy ; )
