Led Zeppelin – Ten Years Gone

This is a live performance by the British rock band Led Zeppelin they play the song “Ten Years Gone” live.
The song originally appeared on the band’s 1975 album “Physical Graffiti”. The song is credited to Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. It was originally intended to be an instrumental piece composed by Page, but Plant later added the lyrics and made the song what it is. The lyrics are about Plant’s relationship to a girl who ten years earlier had forced him to choose between her or his music.
When playing the song live it was done by Page using a Telecaster with a b-bender and bassist John Paul Jones playing the rest of the parts on a three neck guitar featuring a 12-string, a 6-string, a mandolin, and bass pedals. Truly great measures to get the live performance right.
It’s a great song. I really love Page’s approach to playing the b-bender getting a sort of Eastern sound from it. It’s a great performance by a legendary band.

David Bowie - Fame

This is a live performance filmed by the BBC in 2000 of David Bowie performing the song "Fame" live.
The song was first released in 1975, and when it was released as a single it reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was written by David Bowie, John Lennon, and Carlos Alomar. Alomar came up with the guitar riff, Bowie wrote the lyrics, and Lennon came up with the title, he didn't have that much to do with the writing of this number, but still got a writing credit.
It's a great song with a really good groove, I really digg it.

John Legend and The Roots featuring Common & Melanie Fiona - Wake Up Everybody

This is the music video to John Legend's version of the classic R&B song "Wake Up Everybody". On this version Legend is joined by The Roots, Common, and Melanie Fiona.
The song was originally performed by the R&B group Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. It was released in 1975 and did relatively well on the charts.
The song has been recorded several times since it was first released. In 2004 a version was recorded with a long list of artists. It was in support of the 2004 presidential election and encouraged young people to go vote. This version was produced by Babyface. The same year blues artist Keb Mo also did a version of the song.
The newest version is this one by Legend and gang. This version is from 2010. It's a great song and this cover sounds really good with The Roots laying the rhythmic foundation.

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

This is a live performance by the British rock band Pink Floyd playing live at the "Live 8" benefit concert. The song is the title track to the band's 1975 album. The song is was a Roger Waters and David Gilmour collaboration with lyrics by Roger Waters who writes about alienation from other people. The song is also an homage to former frontman Syd Barret.
The song is very popular and it has been covered by Wyclef Jean whose version ended up at #2 on the UK Singles Chart. His version was released in 2001.
I also recommend checking out this version, click here to go to a video of it. It is a performance by Roger Waters with Eric Clapton accompanying him. It sounds very good and Clapton's subtle lead playing fits the song very well.
A great song and a great performance.

Rory Gallagher – I Take What I Want

This is a live performance by Irish guitar, folk and blues legend Rory Gallagher playing his version of the classic soul song “I Take What I Want”.
The song was written by David Porter, Mabon Hodges and soul legend Isaac Hayes. And it has been done by a large number of artists such as: Aretha Franklin and Rory Gallagher who are probably the most famous artists who have done this song.
Gallagher’s studio recorded version of this song was released on his 1975 album “Against the Grain”. And besides two other tracks on the album all tracks were originals composed by Gallagher.
I love Gallagher’s performance of this. It’s like he fuses rock ‘n’ roll with soul music in this as there are still some soul elements in there. Gallagher does an amazing solo and so does Lou Martin on the keyboard. It’s a great song and a great performance by Gallagher and band.

Enjoy ;-)

Rainbow - Long Live Rock 'n' Roll

This is a live performance by the classic rock band Rainbow playing their classic song "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" from their 1978 album of the same name.
The band Rainbow was formed by guitarist Rithchie Blackmore in 1975 shortly after he left Deep Purple. This performance is from 1977 and it features the line-up from the album that also was released the following year. This line-up of course also very famous for featuring legendary front man and singer Ronnie James Dio who also played with Black Sabbath for a period and had his own solo career for a long time. Recently he passed away after struggling with cancer. Dio didn't just do the front man thing when he was with the group, which he was from 1975-79, he also wrote all of the lyrics for the band in this period.
It's a great song and an amazing performance from a band that seems to be on fire. Also it's a great anthem with simple lyrics that were made for the audience to shout a long which they do and are encouraged to by Dio. A great performance by a great band.

Rory Gallagher - Souped-Up Ford

This is a live performance by Irish blues and folk musician and guitarist Rory Gallagher playing the song "Souped-Up Ford" live at Hammersmith, the footage is from 1977.
The song is from Gallagher's "Against the Grain" album released in 1975. The song is written and composed by Gallagher. It is one of Gallagher's slide songs where he plays slide guitar on it. I always love it when Gallagher pulls out the slide because he's so good at it that you just have to watch and be amazed.

Rory Gallagher - Bought And Sold

This is a live performance by Gallagher and his band performing the song "Bought And Sold". The song is from Gallagher's "Against the Grain" album from 1975. It's a studio album and its production value is higher than on some of Gallagher's earlier albums.
It's one of those great Gallagher original blues songs. They have a certain sound to them that is Irish and folk influenced, but also very much influenced by both British blues music from the 60's and also American blues music.
I really love how Gallagher sings with his guitar on the "Hear my now, hear me right" part of the lyrics. Gallagher's voice always seemed to fit the guitar and when he sings along with what he's playing it's just magical. The tonality and phrasing of both his voice and the guitar sounds so wonderful
A great performance and a great song.

Led Zeppelin - Black Dog

This is a live performance by British rock band Led Zeppelin playing the song "Black Dog" released in 1971. This performance is from 1975.
The song appears on Led Zeppelin's 1971 album "Led Zeppelin IV". The main riff of the song is attributed to bassist John Paul Jones who wrote it with the intention of doing a song people couldn't groove and dance to. He thought that with the complex rhythm changes and progressive riff that this would be accomplished. The song is named after a nameless black Labrador retriever who wandered around the studio at the time of recording. The lyrics are completely unrelated to the dog. Robert Plant did the vocals in two takes.
It's a great song and one of many instantly recognizable Zeppelin tracks. They had something with their riffs and rhythm that just made them unique and gave them a sound like no other band.
Truly a great song and performance.

Foghat - Fool for the City

This is a live performance by British rock band Foghat performing the song "Fool for the City" from their 1975 album. "Fool for the City" was the title track and second single from the album. The most famous track from the album is their signature song "Slow Ride".
The album is also the band's only platinum selling album. "Slow Ride" reached no. 20 on the mainstream pop-charts, but "Fool for the City" didn't do as well and only reached no. 45 on the same charts.
It's a good and steady performance and song. Personally I'm not the biggest fan of Rod's lead playing. I'm more a fan of his slide work which is stunning, fast and done to perfect precision, now that's impressive. But a very good performance none the less.

ZZ Top - Blue Jean Blues

This is a clip from a live performance by blues and rock 'n' roll group ZZ Top performing their classic slow blues song "Blue Jean Blues".
The song was released in 1975 on ZZ Top's fourth album "Fandango". The album consisted of recordings from live shows and original new studio-recorded content. The only single to be released from Fandango was "Tush".
It's a very good performance, the video quality could be better and it is a little annoying that it just cuts off before they finish playing. A version of this is also on the "Live from Texas" DVD which I can highly recommend picking up.
I love how Billy Gibbons talks to the audience. This was when he started to be known as The Reverend Willy G due to this part of his audience interaction.
It's a good performance, but track down either the album version or the live version from the DVD I recommended earlier. A great song and a great performance.

Enjoy ; )

Queen+Paul Rodgers - Feel Like Makin' Love

The song "Feel Like Makin' Love" is a song originally by the British supergroup Bad Company. The song originally appeared on the band's LP "Straight Shooter", it was released in 1975 and released as a single the same year. The song was ranked as the 78th best hard rock song by VH1 and its viewers.
It has been covered by a large number of different artists and has been referenced in popular culture on many occasions. One of the most well known covers is Kid Rock's version from 2003. It was highly successful, but doesn't come close to the original, not even close.
The group was a supergroup and consisted of members from various bands. They were managed by Peter Grant who also managed Led Zeppelin. Rodgers was with the group from 73-82, and has since joined various other groups, and done a lot of work with rock legends like Jimmy Page and the remaining members of Queen Brian May and Roger Taylor. Rodgers has been quoted as saying that he feels the best version of this song is with the members from Queen. I agree, it's a great performance, and it's really energetic, gotta love that!

Foghat - Slow Ride

This is yet another 70's hard rock song, and it's awesome. It's a performance by the British blues-rock band Foghat. They perform the song "Slow Ride" which was also their most successful song. It was composed by Dave Peverett, and recorded by the band. It was first released in 1975 on the band's album "Fool for the City". It was named the 45th best hard rock song ever by VH1 and its viewers.
It's a nice and simple song mainly driven by a simple riff focused around an A power-chord. The thing that makes it an awesome performance is the slide guitar played by Rod Price. He really does a good job, and without that it would have been a boring performance. It's an interesting approach to slide guitar, it isn't slow, and much more a rock 'n' roll style of slide playing, in many ways similar to that of Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top. But a great performance, of a great song.

Led Zeppelin - Kashmir

This is a live performance by the British hard rock band Led Zeppelin performing the classic song "Kashmir". It was written over a period stretching from 1973-1975 which was the release year for the song. It was on Zeppelin's album "Physical Graffiti". It was written by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Bonham. And the lyrics of the song date back to 1973.
The main guitar riff is played in Open Dsus4 tuning (commonly referred to as DADGAD-tuning). It has an eastern sound and feel to it, and Page has stated that he had a sitar, and that therefore the sitar was an influence on the song. It is one of the few songs from Zeppelin to feature session musicians as the album version has a string section and a brass section as well, and an added mellotron on top, and you get the distinctive sound of this song.
It's a great performance, Plant is singing his lungs off and Page is playing to the point where he starts sweating, and Bonham is as always just excellent on the drum kit. A great performance of a great song.

Rory Gallagher - Cradle Rock

This is a live performance by Gallagher of the song "Cradle Rock". The song first appeared on the 1973 album "Tattoo". The album contained many tracks that were live favourites of Gallagher, and the song Cradle Rock has been covered by Joe Bonamassa.
This performance is from the 1975 Montreux Festival. It's a great performance of a good little rock 'n' roll song, a nice job by Gallagher and his band.
