Eric Clapton - Five Long Years
This is a live performance by blues artist Eric Clapton playing his version of the classic blues song "Five Long Years".
The song is one of the most widely covered blues standards of all time. It was originally written and recorded by Eddie Boyd in 1952. It did very well in the USA R&B Chart. The song was also inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2011.
I really love Clapton's energetic and up-tempo take on this great classic. This performance is from the unreleased Martin Scorsese film "Nothing But The Blues".
The song has been done by a number of legendary blues musicians, such as: Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker with Van Morrison, The Yardbirds, B.B. King, Ike & Tina Turner, Freddie King, Colin James, and Buddy Guy, and many more.
It's a great song and Clapton plays it flawlessly in this performance. Truly an amazing performance.
Enjoy ; )

Buddy Guy & Eric Clapton - Worried Life Blues
This is a performance by Eric Clapton and Buddy Guy. They perform one of the most covered blues standards ever made. It was first recorded in 1941by Big Maceo as a mid-tempo 8-bar blues. Since then it's become one of the most covered songs in history, the list is almost endless.
What a list (source Wikipedia). I like this version though, Clapton singing and Buddy and Clapton doing solos and a nice piano solo as well. A really nice performance.

Steven Tyler & Joe Perry - I'm A King Bee
This is a performance from the great blues film "Lightning in a Bottle" that features various artists performing blues standards and blues classics.
The original song was recorded by swamp blues artist Slim Harpo who wrote and recorded the song in 1957.
Rolling Stones also did a cover for their debut album, it's pretty similar to the original, but also features a slide solo by Brian Jones.
The song has also been recorded by Muddy Waters in 1981, and been spoofed by John Belushi on SNL, where he performed the song wearing a bee costume.
It's a great little blues song, enjoy ; )

Lightnin' Hopkins - Goin' Down Slow
This is an old recording of blues legend Lightnin' Hopkins performing the classic blues song "Goin' Down Slow". The first release of the song was in 1941, but the song gained notoriety when it was recorded by legendary blues artist Howlin' Wolf in 1962 (for Wolf version click here).
Wolf's recording made the song a blues standard, and it has since been covered by a lot of artists including; Jeff Beck, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton and Aretha Franklin, to name a few.
I like Lightnin's version because it is everything that I love about the blues, a man and his guitar just playing, it's soul, it's fantastic and no one has been able to replicate that today, it's unique.
Lightnin' was also a huge influence on Stevie Ray Vaughan, but more in terms of Vaughan's song "Rude Mood".
Enjoy ; )

Jimi Hendrix - Red House
This is a clip from the classic Woodstock festival of 1969. The clip is of Hendrix's band of Gypsies performing the Hendrix tune "Red House". It's one of the bluesiest tunes of Hendrix's who very often were more rock 'n' roll. It's like a psychedelic blues, mixing the blues with a hint of psychedelia.
The song has become a blues standard, and is respected and covered by many artists. Artists like Gary Moore, Prince and Johnny Winter. But it's also been covered by some of the great blues legends, and Hendrix's own idols like; Buddy Guy, Albert King and John Lee Hooker.
Truly a great tune adapted by the blues legends. Hendrix was a legend, a true master of his instrument, an innovator and just plain out of this world.
So enjoy Hendrix playin' Red House!!
