James Brown - Get Up Offa That Thing

This is a live performance by James Brown the Godfather of soul performing his classic song "Get Up Offa That Thing". The performance is from The Late Show with David Letterman.
The song was originally released on 7" vinyl in 1976. The original single was a two-part single with a B-side titled "Release the Pressure". "Release the Pressure" is actually just a continuation of the same song, but with different lyrics. The song became a huge hit and one of Brown's biggest hits in his late 70's career. It also later became a very common number to appear in Brown's live sets.
The song was produced by James Brown and written by Deanna Brown, Diendra Brown, and Yamma Brown.
I really love this song and performance. I love how much energy Brown puts in to this performance at his age. And the way he still controls the band; a true band leader. And the saxophone solo, man that was amazing. Also love how the song has a lot of musical breaks and stops that are very fast, and how it usually starts off again with the guitar doing something with a wah wah pedal. This is how funk is supposed to sound. It's grand and I love it.

Bonnie Raitt – Love Sneakin’ up on You

This is a live performance by guitarist Bonnie Raitt playing her hit single “Love Sneakin’ up on You”. The performance is from The Late Show with David Letterman 1994.
The song is off Raitt’s 1994 album “Longing in their Hearts”. The album was Raitt’s 12th studio album. This song was the only hit single from the album reaching #19 on the Billboards singles chart.
It’s a great up tempo pop song with the blues feeling of slide guitar added to it. A very good song and performance by Raitt.

Earl Scruggs - Foggy Mountain Breakdown

This is a performance from The Late Show with David Letterman featuring Earl Scruggs and friends performing the classic 5-string banjo piece "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" with a bunch of guest artists joining in.
The song is part of the musical genre called bluegrass which is a very fast paced kind of music, usually with a simple three chord structure throughout which people then jam on and do solos on top on. The piece was written by Earl Scruggs, and recorded by Flatt & Scruggs in 1949. It is considered one of the hardest pieces for 5-string banjos, and only very skilled players can play it at it's intended speed.
The line-up on stage is impressive, it includes; Paul Shaffer on piano, Steve Martin on banjo and Albert Lee on electric guitar, to name a few, it's a long list of performers, and I probably only know the name of half of them, I know shame on me.
Any ways, it's a great up tempo performance of a good song, and bluegrass is related to country which is related to blues, so I can justify posting this here.

Repost: B.B. King - How Blue Can You Get

This is the same case as yesterday's post, where I posted the clip, and then it got taken down by youtube. The original post featured a video, where BB played with Paul Shaffer and The CBS Orchestra which made it an all around awesome performance.
This new video is from the rock DVD producers and distributors Eagle Rock. It's a DVD of several blues and rock 'n' roll artists coming together for a great performance. Click here for more info on the DVD.
This is a good performance of this song too, but I really fell in love with the one from The Late Show. I just really loved the big set-up, with the horn section, and the big orchestra, I really though it sounded awesome. But now it's been taken down.
This performance is very good as well, but a completely different set-up. There's no set-up, and in a way you could say that in that way you really get to see BB's raw talent which is true. But I also really think that BB's talent shines through no matter what set-up he's in. This is a good performance, but not as good as the one in the original post. Stevie Ray Vaughan - Wall of Denial

This is a clip of Stevie Ray Vaughan performing his song "Wall of Denial" from his 1989 album "In Step". It's the fourth studio album by Stevie and the last album he did with Double Trouble. The last studio album of Stevie was the album "Family Style" done with his brother Jimmie Vaughan.
The main theme throughout "In Step" was Stevie's recent sobriety, what went before, and the fact that he had come out clean and sober on the other side.
The performance is from "The Late Show" with David Letterman, probably from a promotion tour for the album.
The album won for "Best Contemporary Blues Album" at the 1990 Grammys.

B.B. King - How Blue Can You Get

This is a performance from "The Late Show". It features B.B. King performing his classic song "How Blue Can You Get" with Paul Shaffer and the CBS orchestra. It's a great version of the song, and the CBS orchestra is great, it's such a joy to hear King performing with a horn section.
There is a mini interview after the performance, it's pretty entertaining, but the performance is the best part for sure. Prettye fun to see David trying to get King to sing with him.
