Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child o' Mine

This is the music video to the classic power ballad "Sweet Child o' Mine" by American hard rock band Guns N' Roses.
The song is from the band's 1987 debut album "Appetite for Destruction". It was released as a single in the summer of 1988 and it went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This was the only time the band had a #1 hit on that chart. The infamous guitar riff was done by Slash who played it as a joke during a jam session, Izzy Stradlin picked up on it and asked Slash to repeat the riff. The song is credited to: Slash, Izzy Stradling, and Axl Rose.
It's a great song, and probably the most recognizable done by the band.

Tina Turner - Nutbush City Limits

This is a live performance by American rock and pop artist Tina Turner doing a smoking performance of the song "Nutbush City Limits".
The song is a semi-autobiographical song written by Tina Turner commemorating her rural background in the town of Nutbush, Tennessee. It was written by Tina Turner and initially released in 1973. It was recorded with Ike Turner whom Tina divorced shortly after the release of this song, making it the duo's last hit single. The song has since been covered by other artists and also been re-recorded by Tina on several occasions. In fact Tina has released the following re-recordings: A 1988 live version, a 1991 remix, and a 1993 re-recording for the autobiographical film "What's Love Got to Do With It?"
Other artists who have done versions of the song include: Bob Seger, Martin Barre from Jethro Tull, and in 1980 Brian Johnson sang the song as part of his audition for AC/DC.
It really is an amazing song. And this performance that Tina puts on, it's truly amazing. She's dancing, singing, and walking on a crane arm reaching out to the audience. She just loves performing and it just shines through so good. This is what Tina's all about to me, a great rock 'n' roll performer with more energy than anyone, truly a rock 'n' roll queen!

Traveling Wilburys - Handle with Care

This is the music video to the song "Handle with Care" by the English-American supergroup Traveling Wilburys consisting of members: George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne accompanied by drummer Jim Keltner.
The song is from the band's first album "Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1" released in 1988. The writing credit of the song is attributed to all five members.
It's a really good song. I really love the simple slide guitar Harrison adds to this. Also really love the way they all sing on it, in my book Orbison steals the show though with his singing, so beautiful.
A great song, they sure don't make 'em like this no more!

Neil Young and the Bluenotes - This Note's for You

This is the music video to the song "This Note's for You" from Young's album of the same name. The album was released in 1988.
The song is a comment on the commercialisation of rock 'n' roll and rock 'n' roll tours in particular. The video features a Michael Jackson look-a-like who's hair catches fire. This caused the video to, at first, being pulled of the air on MTV who had been threatened by Jackson's legal department. They did, however, bring back the video in heavy rotation when it became a hit on the Canadian music channel "MuchMusic". And it also won the 1989 MTV Video Music Award for best Music Video.
It's a great song, I really love the simple straight forward guitar riff. And Young's somewhat unique lead guitar playing really fits the song well, as well as the horn section. A great song by a great artist.

Joe Satriani - Satch Boogie

This is a live performance by guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani playing his famous instrumental song "Satch Boogie".
The song is off Satriani's album "Surfing with the Alien" released in 1987. It was released as a single the following year.
The solo is one of the most famous solos ever. It features fast tapping, hammer-ons and pull-offs. What I really love about this song is that it's essentially a fast boogie, but with Satriani's own guitar style and techniques on it. In that sense the structure of it is influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck and other players who have done fast boogies over time. It takes from those influences and adds to them as well and that is what makes this instrumental piece so good.

Chris Rea - Driving Home for Christmas

This is a video for the Chris Rea Christmas song "Driving Home for Christmas". It was released in December of 1988 as a single, and wasn't attached to any particular album. It did fairly well peaking at #53 on the UK single charts. It did really well in a lot of European countries (scheme below of rankings on various charts).
The song is about a guy driving home to his family or friends to celebrate the Holidays. The song also features a little solo by Chris, it's not a slide solo which is mainly, or at least one of the things Rea is attached to.
It's a nice little Holiday song in a mellow and not over-emotional tone and feeling, a really good Christmas song.

U2 & B.B. King - When Love Comes to Town

This is a collaboration between the band U2 and B.B. King. The song was released in 1988 U2's album "Rattle and Hum", and it was released as the album's third single in 1989.
The song has been played live many times, all of them featuring B.B. King and his band. On the "Lovetown Tour" in 1989 the song was played as an encore on almost all nights of the tour. It was played at 46 out of the 47 shows, and was the main encore for the tour. This clip is also from the Lovetown Tour.
It's a great song with a nice and up beat rhythm. The Edge sticks to playing the rhythm parts on the song, and B.B. plays all the lead parts. The singing is shared between Bono and B.B., but it's B.B. rocking the house and getting the crowd in a good mood. He does a spoken word in the song, and really gets the audience going.
This version is on a very grand scale. B.B. was touring with a big band, featuring both choir girls and a horn section. It all helps build up the scale of the song and the performance, but it's still B.B. at the centre, giving the performance it's heart.
This is so uplifting, you can't be in a bad mood after listening to this.

Son House - Death Letter

This is an acoustic solo performance by legendary blues musician Son House. House isn't as widely known and famous as Robert Johnson who was also one of the old dogs when it comes to blues. Son House was born in 1902 and got to have a long life lasting to 1988 which meant he got to be around the greats and even influence some of them. Many people believe that House has influenced Johnson, in fact Johnson incorporated some of "Death Letter" into his own blues classic "Walking Blues". Son House, because of his old age, was also one of the people who helped spread the myth that Johnson had sold his soul to the devil in trade of his marvellous musical abilities.
The song Death Letter is about a man who learns about the death of the woman he loves in a letter. It is a very dark and depressive song, as the narrator views her dead body in the morgue and attends the funeral only to return home in a state of depression.
The song and Son House himself also gained some new notoriety in recent years due to Jack White being heavily influenced by him. The White Stripes has also covered Death Letter live on numerous occasions. It's a great song with a simple rhythm. One man and his guitar, that's what the blues is all about.
