The Rolling Stones - Happy
This is a live performance by The Rolling Stones playing the song "Happy" live. The performance is from the 2006 gig they played on the beach of Rio de Janeiro. They played to an audience of 2 million people, that's probably the biggest crowd ever at a live show, thus proving the grandiose scale The Rolling Stones are at.
The song originally appeared on the band's 1972 album "Exile on Main St.", and it was the second single released from the album. Richards sings lead on this one, on the record Jagger was credited for percussion and backing vocals. In this live performance, however, he does not seem to appear on stage.
It's a great performance by Richards, really proving that he could be the front man if he wanted to. His performance is so energetic. It's also a good example of how Richards and Ronnie Wood work together and play off each other. It's a great performance and in a way, in my opinion, it brings a certain intimacy to a grand show courtesy of Mr. Richards.
A fantastic performance!
Enjoy ; )

Chuck Berry - Roll Over Beethoven
This is a live performance by classic rock 'n' roll act Chuck Berry playing his classic song "Roll Over Beethoven". The performance is from 1972.
The song was originally released in 1956 on Chess Records. The lyrics of the song are basically about rock 'n' roll and the desire for rhythm and blues to replace classical music.
The song came about as a response to Berry's sister Lucy who always wanted to use the family piano playing classical music while Berry wanted to play contemporary popular music.
The song has been covered by a large number of artists, including: Jerry Lee Lewis, The Beatles, Mountain, Leon Russel, The Rolling Stones, and Iron Maiden, to name a few.
It's a great song, classic rock 'n' roll. Can't go wrong with that!

Stevie Ray Vaughan & The Night Music Band - Sailin' Shoes
This is a live performance by Stevie Ray Vaughan and The Sunday Night Music Band lead by saxofonist David Sanborn. Stevie was a guest performer on the show.
The song was originally written by Lowell George for the band "Little Feet". The song appeared on the band's 1972 album also titled "Sailin' Shoes". The song has also been done by Robert Palmer on his 1974 debut album as a solo artist.
It's a great little performance and Vaughan does a really good solo on it. A video definitely worth checking out.

Richie Havens - "Tupelo Honey" & "Just Like a Woman"
This is a live performance by folk icon Richie Havens. In this performance he plays two songs, first he plays the classic Van Morrison song "Tupelo Honey", and then he switches into "Just Like a Woman" originally written and performed by Bob Dylan. Both covers are great.
Richie is a folk icon. He is known for his unique approach to playing the guitar. He uses open tunings very percussively through his strumming. He was also the guy who opened the original famed Woodstock Festival.
The first song "Tupelo Honey" was originally written and performed by Van Morrison. It was from the album also titled "Tupelo Honey" which was released in 1971. The song was released as a single in 1972.
"Just Like a Woman" is a Bob Dylan song. It was first released on Dylan's 1966 album "Blonde on Blonde". I really love Haven's take on this song and I highly recommend checking out his performance from Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert because it's amazing.
Richie Havens is a unique artist with his own flair and sound and that's what I enjoy so much about him. It's folk at it's best.

Chuck Berry - Reelin' And Rockin
This is a live performance from the source of rock 'n' roll: Chuck Berry playing the song "Reelin' And Rockin". The performance is from 1972 in London and it was released on the album "The London Chuck Berry Sessions". The first side was recorded in the studio and the second side was recorded live. The footage is from this recording.
I really think this is an awesome live performance. Berry is very energetic and his playing is that classic Berry style done very well. Dave Kafinetti also delivers a very good piano solo on the track. A very good performance and song, Berry doing stage moves and having that humorous look in his eye. A very good performance.

The White Stripes/ The Rolling Stones ft. Robert Cray - Stop Breaking Down
These are two different contemporary versions of the classic Robert Johnson song "Stop Breaking Down".
The original recording done by Johnson was recorded in 1937 and released in 1938. Johnson did two takes of the song. They are pretty similar, but the length differs with 5 seconds. This original version is a solo piece with Johnson accompanying his own vocal performance on guitar. Both takes were originally used, but on two different pressings of the single.
The top video is of the duo The White Stripes doing their version of the song. This version was initially recorded and released on the duo's 1999 debut album entitled "The White Stripes". I really like this version. Jack's slide playing really elevates this song and breathes new life into it whilst still staying true to the original. Very well done in my opinion. (The video quality isn't the best, but still enjoyable).
The video below is The Rolling Stones' version of the song. The Rolling Stones recorded a cover of the song on their 1972 "Exile on Main St." album. This performance featuring Robert Cray is from the concert DVD "The Rolling Stones: Voodoo Lounge Live". The performances on this DVD were recorded in 2004. It's a very good version. Personally I prefer The White Stripe's rendition, but this version is very good as well.
So there you have it. Enjoy Johnson's original recording along with all of the modern interpretations of his stuff.

Isaac Hayes - Theme from Shaft
This is a live performance from 1973 of Isaac Hayes performing the Theme from Shaft. The song was originally recorded in 1971 as the theme for the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film "Shaft". The song was shortened from the version in the film and was released as a single. It reached no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in America. The following year the song won an Oscar for the best original song. This also made Hayes the first Afro-American to win an Academy Award in a non-acting category.
The song has been featured in many TV-shows and films since and was also re-recorded for the 2000 remake of the film, it wasn't changed, just re-recorded.
It's a very traditional and good funk song. It has a lot of wah-wah on the guitar and I think it sounds amazing, and Hayes has a voice unlike anyone. It's so low-registered, and I love it. It's a great song, but also a historic song in recent Afro-American historic events. A great song.

Rory Gallagher - Going To My Hometown
This is a performance by blues and folk musician Rory Gallagher. In this performance from 1972 Gallagher plays the mandolin and plays the song "Going To My Hometown", a song that is definitely more folky than bluesy. The song sounds more like Irish folk music, but the lyrics are very bluesy in subject matter, and the mandolin has been used as a blues instrument on several occasions in the 1800's. It's a great performance and a very good vocal performance by Gallagher as well. It's simple and stripped down, a lot of the performance features a simple rhythm tapped by Gallagher with his foot, and later in the song picked up by the drummer using the bass drum. A very good song done by an excellent performer.

Deep Purple - Highway Star
Okay, thought it was about time for a little rock 'n' roll. This is a performance from 1972, Deep Purple perform their classic song "Highway Star" in Denmark. The song and lyrics are pretty straight forward rock 'n' roll, but the organ solo and guitar solo are not your typical rock solos. They stray from the classic pentatonic scale, and Ritchie Blackmore wanted a sound inspired by Bach.
It's a great song, and I really love it. I think it's one of Purple's best songs, and this performance is energetic and perfect, and they all deliver. Ritchie plays great, Gillan sings well and Lord delivers an amazing organ solo that's easily the highlight of the performance.
